power steering pump question

I have a996 F250 with a PSD. Are the power steering pumps interchangeable with other Ford cars and trucks? Mine is making noises and sometimes feels like I do not have power steering. Suggestions please.

I know the pumps on a 460 gas truck are the same as ours.

I can't imagine you can do much better than to buy a reman one. I paid $55 for mine at NAPA and it came with a reservoir, but alone it was even cheaper. Seem to me a junk yard is going to want $25 at least and then it might not work. There is a difference in part numbers for the one with hydroboost, but I think it is just having 2 return lines. The job is pretty simple. I had the same issue with mine and changed pumps this weekend and it is so much better to drive. If you search on here, though, you will see that for a number of people the issue was not the pump but the high pressure line. So take a little time to be sure it isn't leaking first. If you do change the pump, I recommend unbolting the A/C compressor from the bracket and then pulling the whole bracket off (4 bolts and it is free). Makes getting to the pulley much easier. Good luck.
