I have an E40D tranny,351w,in a 92 F250. I rebuilt the tranny myself and it worked perfectly for a little while but now will not shift into overdrive. All other gears shift correct and the tranny makes no noises, doesn't slip. Overdrive button seems to be working and the MLP sensor has been replaced with the upgraded sensor and connector. I can find no manuels which cover the E40D tranny. Any help would be appreciated.TKS,TKS,TKS
When you say it does not shift into overdrive, but your button works ok, do you mean that the button physically goes in & springs back or that the light cycles on and off with each push of the button? I had a similar problem with my '95, but replacement of the entire shift lever with one from a salvage vehicle solved it.
Consider checking all connections in the wiring to the tranny.
Also, how difficult was the rebuild of your E4OD? I have one I need to have rebuilt & would consider doing it myself if extensive specialized tools are not needed. If I can do it myself (& have it work ok) it would sure save a few hundred $!
The light on the shifter cycles on and off as the button is depressed.I have since talked to a few shops to say the least and have replaced the MLP,TPS,speed sensor and the button switch in the shifter.I drove the truck into town today and it shifted to OD but not consistently. It also sometimes runs the rmp's up to about 3000 before it shifts out of 1st.
The tranny really wasn't that hard to rebuild. The scariest thing was all the horror stories I was told.I didn't have to buy any special tools and I was just very careful to watch where all the small parts came out from.I made myself alot of notes and took my time. The tranny pulls great in all gears if it would shift consistently.
