k, performance question, new plugs for my '97 4.6 platnium or Double Plat? what is the diff and is there that much of a gain if i go Double?!? are they worth the extra $$$
14- 15 MPG in a 4X4 with either 4.6 or 5.4 is about average from what I've read on this forum and it is exactly what I get in mostly city driving. Some get a little better fuel economy but that might be driving style.
Manetheran, try doing a search on spark plugs. You will get tons of info on the subject.
With my 1997 4.6 L, I got about 300 miles to the tank. I drive 15 miles one way to work and 15 back home. I usually drive 60 to 70 most of the way. Now I am around 270 miles to the tank. I need to clean my throttle body soon....
i only drive about, 3 miles to work and back, and twice a week to school about 20 miles each way. other than that i don't really drive around that much. i am not much of a lead foot, every once the occasional stomp on the gas next to a chevy i guess i am gonna give it a quick tune up, if i can find time, or i might just have it done somewhere. i did calculate mine, i am getting about 10.5 miles per gallon. thats horrible horton.
i have been getting around 12.7mpg every fill up. i do a mix of highway and city. i drive around 72 mph on the highway. I just got a flowmaster cat back and it didnt help the mileage any.
i was just wondering were my MAF is and how to clean it???? i was wondering how much of a difference that would make?
Also commenting on other peoples gas mileage, there is a big difference in some people mileage 13-17 miles per gallon.
Some factory could be the rear gears, i have 3.73s so my engine revs higher than others. i just think that other people should keep that in mind when some people have 3.00 and others have higher gears, it can make a huge difference in the engine rpms and therfore gas mileage
Horrible sounds like an understatement. Had a '77 GMC, shortbed, 4x4, 4spd man, 350cid, Holley 4bbl double pump with 33's on it. I got 10mpg on a good day. I certainly expect a 98 to get better than that old piece of truck! I do notice when I do a lot of driving in town, it goes down. You know, stop and go stuff. I still wouldn't expect what you are experiencing.
I agree, geering can have a big impact on gas mileage. I have a slightly more than average lead foot when needed. I'm doing good this week, I calculated it out today, and so far i'm at about 14.9 mpg for this tank, so not too shabby. I'm going to find my geer ratio later on tonight after work to see what I'm at.
ok, well i guess i am going to do it this weekend. any suggestions on spark plugs?, if i clean the throttle body, would it be worht to add a spacer? what else should i change, clean or check? hopefully my gas milage will get better.
