I have 92 f150 shortbed 300 i6. I only have 1 gas tank its in the rear. It seems very small maybe 12 gallons I only get 200 miles per tank can I upgrade the tank.I also have rear axle code of twelve is that a 2.73 ratio.
your tank is most likely 18 gallons. you can put a 38 or so gallon tank in there, but you have to remove the spare tire. im not sure on the axle code, but it is a good possibility.
Put a full gas can in your truck (at least 2 gal) and run it dry. Then go to a gas station & refill the tank AND the gas can - the total is the exact capacity of your tank.
Or you could look it up in a Haynes manual... It's also listed in the owner's manual in the Quick Reference Refill Capacities.
I'm looking to put a Bronco 33 gallon tank in my 88 F-150 SWB. The spare tire won't fit any more but I'm willing to make that sacrifice. I believe your truck has the same 16.5 gallon OEM tank as mine. It is pitifully small for any of the stock engines and the associated fuel milage.
Any comments from the cheap seats as to whether or not the Bronco to F-150 fuel tank swap is practical? I'd hate to find out after I buy the tank and take mine out that it won't work. Any tricks to this kind of thing?
i know jc whitney has a replacement oversized tank so it must work. i could swear my 1991 f150 swb had an 18 gallon tank. i remember running it dry, and im sure i put in 18.2 gallons when i filled it up. best places to look are haynes manual or your drivers manual.
I'm pretty sure that they only make oversized tanks for the long bed only and you have to take out the spare. I bought my standard plastic replacement for my 94 excab sb for 125.00 shipped. The new tank fits great. Maybe they can help you MTS out of Iowa. 1-800-522-1622
The rear tank for eithwr wheelbase is 19 gallon, the front for a short box is 16.5, most aftermarket are 17, for a LWB, it's 19 gallons, same as the rear... I need to replace the rear in my F250,a nd, I'm very tempted to go with a 38 gallon unit...
