Do turndowns right after the muffler provide better gas mileage? Personally I am not a big fan of turndowns. I bought my 2001 4.2 liter 5spd with flowmaster single in/dual out with turndowns and due to the extreme loudness, I felt inclined to have dual pipes with tips put on it. I noticed I haven't been pulling as many MPG as I used to(about 30 less per tank)Now I get a steady 350 miles per tank. Is this normal? By the way since then I had my flowmaster swaped out with a magnaflow(no gain or loss of fuel economy)..Thanks for any future replys....
turndowns right after the muffler shouldnt affect mpg that much compared to a tip with a couple more feet of pipe but if it really is affecting yours just go back to turndowns but dont use the 90 degree turndowns get some that are closer to 45 degrees maybe even less than that so the exhaust isnt bouncing off the ground right back at your truck
I thought so, but I wanted to check and make sure. The swap between the flowmaster and the magnaflow made it a lot quieter, so I assume it won't be as loud with turndowns as the flowmaster..Thanks buddy......
What rear end ration do you have? My '01 F150 4.2, 5sp averages well over 400 miles per tank (about 19-20 mpg) in daily driving. Maybe you just have a heavier foot than I do. Mine has 3.08 rears.
3.55 Ratio....350 miles per tank is my usual..it doesn't matter how easy on the gas I am...I've even tried grandma style...not much difference..when i first got the truck 8 months ago I pulled 370...but when I got tired of the dual turndown flowmaster(that it came with) I had dual pipes with tips put on it. Since then I have the muffler swaped with magnaflow 3" inlet/dual 2.5" outlets. No difference...
