Has anyone bought / seen these in person? I'd like to add some retractable hideaway steps, but haven't been able to find anyone locally with them installed, or in stock for that matter. I have been thinking about fabricating a set out of double tube side bars that accordian out, but it's been a LONG time since I stick welded anything. Other than that, the fire rescue trucks all have some really nice fold up steps, but they wouldn;t look too nice on my truck. They're also red <s>
My buddy has those on his crew cab chevy, four of them. They are nice, quiet, and fast. As soon as you open the door, it drops down. He has the original 8inch ones. They now have ones that drop down 12inches, which I will need for my truck but they are very expensive. 300 a piece x four =1200, plus tax and shipping, ouch. It will be a while before I get those.
I did the same thing 300 x 4 etc... I think I really need some leads on mechanisms and such to fab my own. the Kodiaks also look a little small in all the pics I've seen
If you just get the 8" drop down steps the cheapest I ever saw them was $350.00 a pair. An extra $100.00 per step to go to the 12" legs if I remember correctly.
Or, there are also the AMP Research Powersteps, the come down and out like a running board and the step is wide and the entire length of the cab. Close the door and they fold back up out of sight. If I was getting electric drop down steps I'd most likely get these.
Also, a lot of people like the N-Fab steps since the step is lower than most other nerf bars and they look pretty good.
I had a set of these on my F-150. They were pretty noisy after a while. Had to unhook them when I went hunting because when i got into the truck in the morning they would come clanking down. Liked having them though. Didn't worry about knocking them off while I was 4 wheelin', and the wife and kids couldn't have gotten into the truck without them. Peolpe that would see them come down when I opened the door thought they were the coolest thing too!

I am taking my truck in monday to get the amp research running boards. I went in to the place, where I am getting them done, a few months back and he quoted me 1250.00 installed. When I went back he said they had raised the price but gave tham to to me for 1250.00 since i had the quote. They had a truck at the place that had them and seeing them sold me on it.

Yeah, I believe there was SEMA show special pricing on them that expired on 12/31/03........cool that he still honored the estimate though.
