When you push the button, it simply releases a latch. The step might pop out 3/4 inch. Then you just pull it out. It is not electric or spring loaded or anything. As long as you can smoothly pull it out it is working properly.

Probably wise to have the dealer check it out. Try a couple of other trucks on the lot with the step and see if they perform the same. 2015+ F-150 will be exactly the same if no 2017 Super Dutys are available.

As an additional note, I find this tailgate step works extremely well. It slides in and out very smoothly as does the handle. I can actually see a bit of grease on the slides. Perhaps yours just needs lubricating to pop out a little bit more when you push the button?

The "push out" 3/4 to 1" is achieved by the spring in the handle when it is stowed or it appears to be on mine. If the end of your handle does not depress and spring back in the stowed position, I am betting that is the issue.

O yes this thing is very very useful easy to use easy to put back in.

i was thinking grease too but i just went out and looked again when i press the button there is no pressure or resistance. so i think that might be the problem.

I have noticed the same thing with mine. When I first got it if you pushed the button it sprung out about an inch. Now it is hit or miss if it pops out or I have to pull it out a little before grabbing it. I will look at lubricating it.

If you have some silicon spray try that first. It dries out but leaves a clear film which is very slippery on plastics, especially.

My step does the same thing. The push button does not make the step pop out and pretty sure that is not how it's designed.

First service will get it looked at.

Pulled on the yellow **** to pull the arm aid out for the first time after the winter and the yellow know came right out of the arm shaft. There is holes in the yellow **** and holes in the aluminum arm shaft, but what is supposed to be holding the yellow **** tight to the shaft? Is there a metal pin that goes throw the arm shaft and yellow **** to ensure it doesn't pull off.? I don't see anything but holes and a couple of ridged edges on the ****. Thanks.

It’s the yellow #1 button which holds the top half of the handle in place. You push it to retract it back in and it clicks locked when pulled all the way out

Sorry Troverman its the yellow *** (****) that has come right out of the top shaft. I don't see what holds the *** (****) in place when you pull it out. The *** (****) continues to dislodge from the shaft every time I pull the open the tailgate step now. The ribs on the 4 sides of the *** do not hold it tight to the top shaft any more.
