Has anyone installed (themselves) the banks stinger plus system in a 2000 f-350 crewcab 4x4? I have just received my kit and will be installing it in the next few days. What I'm looking for is the little gremlins that always popup with the " All you need is basic mechanical knowledge and a few tools" statement from the maufacture. I've build race cars in the past and restored a few old fords but this electronic age (computers/chips) is a bit intimitating.
Terry, I don't have 2000 but I did install Stinger-plus on 1999 F-350 ext.cab less than 1 year ago. Maybe I can help as no one else responded.
#1 My downpipe did not have to be cut. You should disconnect from turbo, as per instructions, and turn out of the way.
#2 Hardest part, reach behind turbo, follow instructions, and remove exhaust valve operator. Next remove turbo. Now you can remove downpipe.. Disconnect downpipe below and twist out from the bottom. It came out on mine??
#3 only other problem. Make sure to follow instructions re: 3 wires from transmission for transdapt. Follow instructions and You will be OK. Any problems, call Banks. they will help. I did myself in less than one day. (I did have to shorten one exhaust pipe approx. two inches to make sure hangers hung straight. Best of luck. You will enjoy. Carroll Allison
Calli, I was considering buying the quick turbo from Bank's, I already have mods from them already, my question is- did you see a big diffrence in preformance and mpg and do you feel it is worth the money?
Bender, I am very satisfied with the system. Hard to tell with a 7500 lb. vehicle how much my seat of the pants feel is though. I picked Banks for their complete package approach. I know I could have pieced something together, maybe had more power, Possibly saved a few bucks but I like this system. I sometimes carry a 4000 plus lb. 11 1/2 ft. Lance camper and I picked up a little over one mpg. Not much but I was surprised. I have not paid much attention to the empty mileage though. Approx. 17 to 18 mpg. No complaints at all. I put one on my 01 F-350 C/C. Do yourself a favor and read thru all the instructions first. We noticed that some things were a bit out of order. Also, do the tranny wiring and plug while you have your exhaust off. If you follow their order and put the exhaust on first you will have a heck of a time trying to plug in the trans command. BE CAREFUL when replacing the plug pins. they brake easy! Good luck.
VMan, not too much time for the replacement. More time spent disconnecting exhaust valve, wastegate, etc. than anything. Four bolts separate turbo. Two bolts for turbo ( easier if removed)from base. Make sure turbo gaskets are in place on replacement.
To Bender--- Listen to gburkett. He is correct re: wiring for trans-dapt. I forgot that step. Sure makes it easier. CA
Calli,
Thanks I plan on ordering the turbo sometime this year. I have only seen a few Boss Hoss's in this area. What a machine! Working at a 4 line dealer(Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha), I get a chance to ride most all new machines. The Boss Hoss is one I REALLY wanna spend some seat time on...maybe someday. Also one of my friends just got his Hayabusa back from Barry Henson in Florida. Barry installed a Velocity Racing turbo system.....513.9 RWHP! That will be a fun ride.......

Thanks for all the helpful hints,Your right they don't give you a headsup on beware of's. After the snow stops I'm going to warm up the garage and start taking apart all the plumbing so I can access the turbo to install the turbo kit. By the way guys its not an easy task to convince the boss that the pucker factor will be somewhat alleviated with more H/P when climbing the continetal divide. I will update as soon as I get the rig running in a tow mode.
Speaking of helpful hints I was watching the T.V. show Two Guys Garage and they were installing an exhuast system on a new ford truck (F150). And they stated that you should always disconnect the neg battery terminal when tack welding the slip joints with a tig or mig welder as it could damage the computer.
Nev bronco, You're pretty busy yourself building that mansion on the hill. But when I get all the honey dos out of the way (like you) I plan on jumping in with both elbows.
