.................is this a good deal?
Howdy,
It might be if all the above "stuff" included a new oil cooler AND the EOT/ECT difference looks good running at the appropriate speed etc!............
Look in the Tech folder in this forum, I think the first thread has some good info on what to look for in a used 6.0. Don't get roped into paying much for the mods, they don't add much value at the loan department at the bank. Personally, I'd be willing to add a few bucks for the studs if they were done right. Also consider it's probably tuned and likely driven hard. You have some investigative work to do. a well cared for, bone stock truck would probably be worth more.
I would look for a bone stock truck over a hot-rodded one IMHO
Josh
X2 I agree with Josh and Rusty on this, just for info my truck is still bone stock. I would look for a better truck and less price and add the the mod that u want too.
Aks WHY the new FICM?
If it died did they do the charging system checks and batteries?
Check that charging system and batteries cold first start of the day
and see how they look. Not anything of a deal breaker just pay less
if the batterise and charging system are in question.
Stock is the best.
What power group options does it come with?
Power heated seats? Sun/moon roof,EATC
If it has a power rear window make sure that it works.
They are a bugger to work on and cost an arm,let 1st and 2nd born child
Some may think that is a plus and a nice way to loos the kids if they won't move out.
I paid $9600 for a 2006 lariat 350 crew long bed 4X4. One owner, exceptional maintenance records. Did need some small things and had some smaller dents (quoted $700 to fix). I had 195,000 miles on it recent EGR valve, oil cooler, ball joints, brakes and more. If you buy from private party you can find some deals.
If you WANT the extras that are on the truck then it might be worth more TO YOU. I personally wouldnt pay over $15,000 for that truck
Please take in to account the Alaska sales price everything is a but pricer here
Knocked that right out of the Ball Park.... Do you have the extras as in battery, oil pan heaters, and Winter front cover that goes with owning a truck in Alaska?
All that stuff done to the truck is exactly where all these guys are heading.... one piece at a time. The difference is that they prefer to do the work knowing that most shops/repairs are not done correctly or over priced.
IF... the trucks in great shape, work is done correctly and been reliably run for a period of time without anything going bad because of shortcuts, poor workmanship or poor quality parts. VERIFY the motors in good working order by checking the FICM, batteries, alternator, EOT-ECT spread, cold start ICP & IPR, any new parts like injectors, oil coolers... all the stuff we always like to see and it checks out... I say, you got a good start of what needs taken care of without breaking a sweat on your part.
Maintenance is huge on these, filters, type of oil he used, any records for repairs and all that. Reality is that nobody wants to buy a truck and dump a ton of money into it the first month....happens all the time, we read them stories here every day.
There are a lot of guys not comfortable even changing a tire, I'm not, they are heavy and make me drink beer.... If we drink beer first and then change tires, I'm more comfortable...
But with some good research, asking a few choice questions and checking the truck THOROUGHLY for issues, hidden or otherwise using a good scan tool and gauges to read live data... you can find a pretty darn good truck. Don't let it scare you because some work was done for you.. AND no matter what you decide and/or the truck you get, be prepared to put some time into it with changing filters, fluids and really getting the truck up to speed.
