I was recently looking at the owner's manual for my Ranger, and noticed that it mentions a door chime that comes on if your headlights are turned on and you open the door. The thing is, I have never heard the chime, and actually ran my battery down once because it wasn't there. My repair manual doesn't mention a chime -- are there any experts here who can confirm that this feature is or isn't there in my particular model? I have a '92 Ranger 2wd, 5-speed, with a 3.0L V6. I can send more info if it would help to figure this out.
my 95 ranger has the chime but for some reason it will allways chime when my door is open with the key in or out unless my key is in the ignition turned so the radio will be on.
16977....I would suggest you check your fuses especially anything connected to the GEM circuit. My Haynes manual only goes to '93 so I'm not sure your '92 has one.
Surfer 8400.....I had the same problem with my '95. Do you have an after market radio installed? That was my problem. If you leave the radio on when you turn off your ignition it will not chime any more. When someone installed the radio, they left some of the GEM circuitry disconnected and I think it looks for the radio power source. Worth a try.
I'd be happy if my chimes stopped working. Even though it's a nice, soft ding sound, it still drives me nuts! Until I bought my truck, the newest vehicle we had was a 1977. No chimes on any of those. And I know they are there to help people out...but I think they should be an optional package instead of standard equipment.
I just checked my fuse box...nothing blown in there. I think that surfer8400 may be on to something: my truck's previous owner did a really bad job installing an aftermarket radio, and it's possible he may have clipped the wrong cable back there at some point. Now I just wonder if I'll be able to find the right one...my repair manual doesn't mention a door chime, so I'll have to get something a bit more detailed.
