Question ignition questions

I have a 92 Mustang 5.0 motor in my 95 F150 which had a 4.9L previously, now I am at the point with the ignition, can i just say with the hell with the TFS system and just run the distributor off of an aftermarket ignition box? Will that even work? What parts do i need to get this thing to fire off?!
Thanks in advance,
Gary

What's wrong with the TFI system? If the 5.0 is computer controlled, the TFI is essential for the computer to know that the engine is running and to get injector and ignition timing correct. You can still run an aftermarket ignition box with the TFI, but timing would still be controlled by the computer.

I understand about the TFS, but I bought the motor without wiring harness<he cut it!>, without computer and my intentions were to carb it, as of now, i have the motor ready to go minus my stock 4.9L tfs ignition still bolted up to the trucks fenderwell, I would like to rip all that garbage out and have something external<aka: not manufactured by FORD!> I was under the impression that the 4.9L tfs was not interchangeable with the V8s.

You are correct, the 4.9 distributor and electronics will not control a V8. For simplicity sake, I would get the electronics for the V8 and run it on EFI, but that's just me. Whichever you feel comfortable doing, is completely your call. There are a lot of other things to account for when going back in time for a carburetted setup. If you do go carburetted, I would get an msd distributor with mechanical (centrifugal) advance and vacuum advance, and run it with an msd 6a box. If you have emissions tests in your area, they will probably fail you if they find a carburetor under the hood.

Get a used duraspark 11 dist and use a g.m. module and then you only run one wire to the module from your ignition and you're up and running cheap and easy, look up duraspark on google and all the info is there.

your gonna need a duraspark 2 dist any way you go i think, you can run it like daerhldgs2 said or an MSD ignition box will work well with the duraspark dist and you wont need the duraspark module.
