Hey all, im 16 and im doing a 4 cylinder conversion on my '84 mustang hatchback, anyway i am in desperate need of the donor car or just the long block 302 or 351 anyone know where i could find a rebuildable or running one in southern indiana for cheap? thanks!
check out turboford.org (free site also),you ever herd of an svo? if you have a 5spd it would be an easy'er swap than a v8 (besids the efi thing). It could be just as fast plus after you beat a guy that just put a bunch of money in his firechicken you could show him under your hood. I love the look on there faces when they see my t-bird only has 4 sparkplug wires. I've gone 14.9 in the 1/4mile with very few mods and my car weighs 3600lbs.
a 2.3 turbo motor was used in the svo. it was a mustang produced fron 84-86. They had 175 hp in 1984 from a 4 banger, good suspension, and different styling. in 1985 and 1986 they had 205 hp from the 2.3 4 banger.
You could get a 351 stroker, which can go to a 408, that thing would fly, I have a 351 in my bronco (Lots of weight) and its still pretty fast with intake and exhaust!!
go to www.stangnet.com i am registered there too since i have a 95 5 spd and a 76 mustang II with a 302 4 spd. if you have any relatives in texas now would be a good time to visit. i know somebody that just built a 351 with a cam and all other kinds of bolt ons and it has never been fired. he is selling it for 500 dollars and i think that is a hell of a deal. anyway how are you going to upgrade you fron't suspension. and also you need to upgrade the rear end with some strong gears and new bearings. the tranny may not be strong enough to get beat on all the time by a motor with 4 extra pistons. just some things to think about. i am gonna do a swap on my 95 stang when i get the money and get the miles on this 2000 model engine i just dropped in. do something about the radiator too i'm sure you know all this but just making sure.
go to the bottom "in blue" under classifieds click on parts, there is always a decent priced 302/351 and variations of each, as for quality couldn't say, thats between you and the seller. Good luck
WOW THANKS GUYS! im planning on putting a 302 or 302 HO, a 4 speed toploader, and a ford 9 inch rear end, im keeping the 4 cylinder front suspension on it, which will help with handling on drag and around corners.... thanks for the help! anything else is appreciated!
i talked to a mechanic friend of mine and he said that the stock suspensio will handle and hold it fine, the only differnce will be is if im taking a 30 degree corner at 50 mph i might feel a difference :P:P like thats gonna happen
