mine is making alot of noise , changes pitch as i press the pedal down , it's kind of annoying .....but not lay down in the snow to fix it annoying . how long do these things normally go with it sounding like that ? i'm kind of one of those fix it when it's completely broken kind of guys . think it'll last till spring ? and how hard is it to fix ? i've never done a clutch before .
Well I am not sure how long it will go making sound but most likely till spring, as for doing the clutch it isn't a lay in the snow kind of project or even a lay in the grass project depending on what you have. I did it this winter on an 88 f-150 4X4 with a 302. It is a pretty big job because you have to slide the transmission back about 6-8 inches. Not too bad a job with 2 people.
It will last until March 17th at 6:37 pm.... and it will leave you stranded at a stoplight...
It is a very big job because you need to get everything up high enough to get a rolling trans jack in there to pull the trans back...
i don't count taking the entire transmission out a big job , i had to change 4 trannys in one month with an old cougar i had . i got used to it real quick . luckily i think the clutch is just out of adjustment , it seems to be constantly engaged , not very much , but enough to make that bearing squeal and emit a nice clutch burning smell . good thing i haven't been driving much . i'll get to that when the snow melts .
If you have a mechanical linkage, there is some adjustment. But, most of the time, the clutch not disengaging is a sign of the pressure plate spring finger being worn off. The fact that the throwout bearing is making noise (its in direct contact), that is a good indication that you need a new clutch.
