Chipped a tooth, how do I fix it?

I chipped an upper front tooth, just the corner, not bad, but enough to annoy me. Is there anyway to fix it? trip to the dentist?

See your dentist -- he can fill in what's missing.

Bailing wire and duct tape...

If it's not bad enough to bother you, then you can raid your wifes/girlfriends grooming kit and steal her sandpaper stick (i.e. emery board). You can usually smooth off the rough edge so you won't cut your tongue....

I sur hope ya'll wanted the redneck version of modern dentistry..

Live with it, after a few weeks you'll get used to it.
I hope you won the fist fight, the chipped tooth adds character to your smile.

A dentist is best bet, with the new epoxies, the repair lasts quite a while. I've had 2 fronts done and you wouldn't notice. A Dremel tool works ok for cleaning the edges but, use 2 hands to help steady it. and keep your tongue out of the way.

I just came back from the dentist. I saw your question this morning, and asked my dentist what he would do.
He said bonding is an option, it is less expensive and covered partially under insurance. I didn't ask what the procedure was, but he did mention, that the quality of the bonding job depends on how much tooth is missing and how many facets (or surfaces) the dentist is working with. Anotherwards the chances of a sucessfull repair to a tooth are better when more of the tooth is gone, and vice-a versa, the less tooth missing the greater chance of the bond failing prematurely.
The better way of repairing the tooth is to cover it with a porcelain veneer, a veneer is very expensive and not covered by insurance. A veneer is glued over the existing front face of the tooth, the tooth is first abraded to give the glue a good surface to hold onto to, and the veneer is placed right over your damaged tooth. The problem with a veneer is matching the color to the other teeth, and even if it is a good match, it may not match later in your life as your teeth change their color naturally.

I have a good sized chip on the back of a tooth, the dentist just smoothed it out with a burr and its been fine for 35 years so far!

I chipped a tooth in 4th grade. I kept it chipped for a few years, and I was at the orthadontist. He said it was too ragged of a chip to just leave since I had braces. He took a dremel and went at it.
