My heater doesn't seem to be working like it should, it gets hot but doesn't blow much air at all. It seems like when I turn it on high, it blows about as much as it should on low, I can't even really feel anything coming out of vents on low. It's a new blower motor, I must've bought a cheapo, any suggestions or should I just go buy a good blower motor? It's a 85 f150.
Clean out all the heater vents, and anywhere the blower motor blows air. It will surprise you how much stuff can get in the vents and how the little things can stop so much air.
Also, take the wire harness that plugs into the motor off, clean it good, and put electrical grease on it. If you want, you can take the entire blower out and blow off all of the dust on the fan blades, and whatever else is in there. (pencils, paper clips, leafs, etc.)
The blower motor I put in didn't have a harness, but I'll check my connections. I'll check my vents too, but to me it sounds too quiet, I can't really even hear it run on high. Thanks for the tips guys.
I had to put in a new a/c core cause of a leak in old one, the thing was stopped up with dirt that stuck to it from oil residue. When I turned on the blower the first time it sounded like a jet engine...Nice, lots of air moving, could hear it over the general noise of the truck when running and driving.
I'm afraid I'm not much help on this one. I have the exact same problem. If you find a solution, please post up so I will know where to look. :-)
I'm going to try some of the suggestions here when the weather warms up. It's too cold to be out there working on something when it's at least running.
ahh the 85 F150 blower problem.. wonder if ford knew about it? I have an 85 f150 302 aod and well same problem here.. hope when it warms up I can take everything out if it and see what the problem is... but it is way too cold in the midwest todo anything about it right now.... keep us posted on how the problem is fixed im sure it has something todo with stuff in the airvents?!
Check for a thread on "heat vents" that was here a week or so ago, the heater door has a plastic hinge that breaks and blocks air flow in the position it broke the hinge, just about have to take dash apart to fix, I had to do mine.
PS the OEM heater cores were bad to have to much solder on them and it does not take much to stop them up, on the air flow side that is. The new one I put in you could see thru it real good.
It doesn't sound like his problem is the heater door. I just fixed mine a couple of months ago. I can now switch between dash and floor, but there still isn't much air flowing out. You have to put your hand right up next to the vent to feel it when it is on high.
I can hear the speed change, when I move the selector switch, but it never seems to run at full speed. Makes my A/C worthless in the summer, even though what air that does come out is nice and cold.
my truck the motor only works on high and evry time it snows i got to take themotor out to remove the snow in there or iwill get colder air than usal normally it takes my truck over an hour to get hot air comming out of the vents and defrosting the windshild forget it
If your truck has dash vents, you can take out the center adjustable vent and look down into the duct work to see if the "door " is moving or not, work control , use a small flashlight to see down into it plus you can see the A/C core(back side anyway). The foam they use for a door seal may have come unglued from the "door" and is stopping up the duct some where. If you have a small mirror look all around for "stuff" in the duct work. Could the mtr have the wiring crossed so it runs reversed ?
I replaced the heater core not quite a year ago, and it did have some leaves and stuff in the vents. Unless the vents are plugged up where I can't reach, I think I should be ok there. I can switch between defrost and vents ok, but the temperature control cable doesn't seem to work. It gets hot enough, so I'm not concerned about that until summer, it stays on warm. You guys think my vents are plugged up somewhere under the dash that I couldnt reach without pulling the dash? I cleaned out what I could with the heater core out. Thanks again guys.
Take your motor out and turn it on, see if it seems like its running as fast as it should. If the vents aren't plugged, I'd still bet that the problem is that the plug that plugs into the motor needs cleaning.(they get corroded after time) That's what my problem was.
I took out the heater core and blower assembly again to clean the vents. It was suprising how much crud was built up in there. Looked like dirt that got wet and froze, wasn't much fun to get out. I also cleaned the connections. It's working about 200% better now, thanks guys.
I always have to put gloves and crap on my seat on my pass. side and middle defrost vents to put up a fight going down the highway when it's 0, otherwise whatever gets defrosted in the driveway is it once I start moving. As long as I've had this truck this blower has been junk
