Question smog control

I'm not sure what all is missing, I think just the hoses. When I got a new motor put in the mechanic told me he just bypassed the smog control. It ticked me off a little bit because he didn't ask me before altering my motor. I wish there was something I could do about it.

If your state, county DMV requires emissions controls, well, you need to put it back in there. This is often where Haynes and Chilton's manuals fall sort and Mitchel Manuals really shine. My local library has a full set from 88 through 2002, not sure if everyone's library is that kind. Expensive books.

But, get the emissions and vaccum routing diagrams and simply duplicate it under the hood, assuming your butcher, er, mechanic didn't disable any of the equipment with glue, a screwdriver, or other common means for destroying that stuff.

Any of the mechanical stuff thats been damaged, glued, removed etc you can either purchase new or from a junkyard. EGR valves I'd always buy new, after they have been sitting in a yard for a while they tend to rust shut, or open, which does you no good. THe purge canister and related solenoids, junkyard item all the way.

If its a ford part, and has the same number of hose ports and the same electrical connectors, don't think you have to get it from the exact same vehicle. Same year range is important because the wiring and hose ports will probably be the same, but all ford cars have emissions stuff

Sometimes you can get creative, I did an "air pump delete" on my F350 to use the brackets for a second alternator, and used Caddy Seville canister and a few other stuff and it breezed right through.

Good luck!
