I'm about ready to my truck! I have a 93 Ford F-150 with the 5.0 and I am having a few problems with it:
1. My front tank fuel gauge only works when it wants to.
2. I have to manually change gears; it won't go into first gear; and when I come to a complete stop, it doesn't start in the right gear. (it's an automatic)
3. I also want to get better performance and don't know how.
Shoot it lol
Only kidding
1 Pull the sending unit and replace
2 ??????????????????
3 How long have you had the truck?
Whenwas it last tuned up usual includung O2 sensor and such?

Does anyone have any advice for me???

1) front fuel gauge problem is most likely the sending unit.
2)Check tranny fluid, change tranny fluid & filter ~ including fluid in torque converter (hey, it may help)
3)What kind of performance do you want & how much are you willing to spend to get it?
My 1992 4.9 has the intermittant front tank guage problem too. I just popped off the connector from the top of the tank and found the 4 pins and plugs full of nasty grease and dirt. I guess someone put some kind of grease in there to inhibit corrosion. I hit both sides of the connector with CRC electronics connector cleaner and scrubbed with an acid brush. I rinsed them with some more CRC and dried them with compressed air. I sparingly coated the 4 pins with dielectric grease to help fight dirt and corrosion. My truck is on Jack stands for another day, but I will try and get back to you in the next week, if it helped or not.
My theory about the connector is based on one simple thing. Ford replaced a bad front sender for me. The original sender and new sender did the same thing, which was intermittant gauge reading.
I may try that. I had to replace my torque converter about a month ago and it started working for about a week, then it stopped. maybe i have a loose wire. I just don't know???
