Does anyone know if you can swap out the track bar from a pre99.5 to a later one?Or are there any companies that make an adjustable one for the early trucks.
Both, you can use a later model on an early model or a early model on a later model, or use an after market adjustable, as far as I know, no changes have been made in the length or fitment.
heavy-yes,I own a f-350,build date9-98,and i can't find an adjustable track bar that fits the early 99's.I did a search on the forums and still got nothing.
I have a later track rod on my 3-3-98 you have to buy the upper bracket and install it and as far as the lower drill out the hole and grind some off the rod to fit,...Lotsa fun to drill a 3/4 hole BTW.
I don't know if they are interchangeable but u won't find an adjustable trac bar for an early model SD. The well in the lower mount is just not deep enough for a knuckle from an aftermarket one to fit in there. When I went w/ this 8" lift i was so insistent on using an adjustable trac bar my supplier was able to take a lower mount off a truck he installed x-over steering on and let me have it. I had mine taken off and one from the newer model welded on. I do wish you luck. Oops, there is one available but use it at your own risk. Skyjacker's. E-mail me if you want more help!
BTW, my supplier also said trac bar from an early model SD is stronger than one from a late model SD.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it'll be easier to just get the droped track arm bracket.I'll take a look at the superlift track arm too.I wonder why they say the early model bar is stronger than the later? Thanks again.
Did they go back to a wimpy track rod cause my original was puny.
I looked at all the new SD's on the lot and they were massive I think I ordered one for a later 99 but the 03's in the lot were the same size,,All of them should be of the large size now, don't know about the 04.
I was gonna post something earlier but I was unsure also. I think it's in the way they are cast. Are the ones for later models tubular? The trac bar I took off measures exactly 1" diameter. I can't imagine one being any smaller.
made before March 1, 1999) used a bolt on the front track bar that’s too small for its bushing. This isn’t a strength issue so much as an annoyance, as the bolt makes a popping noise when the bar moves. But it is something to be aware of, especially if you’re going to lift the truck and change the track-bar mount bracket. Let your parts supplier know if you have one of the early trucks with the small bolt so you get the right parts.
Got this off the web After mar 99 you have the large track rod..
