I happily paid $5500Cdn. for my '924x4/7.3i.d.i. with 173.000 miles it is stock through-out.Since October I have seen NO 2wd or4by truck for that range of buck that I would want.
That statement about knowing the maintenance of the truck could be your clue or hint.
Its got a shell,ac works,110000 miles, manual trans with original clutch(how long do clutches last with genral use?)body decent, paint is dark gray and showing signs of oxidation. Thanks for your inquiries!
Look at the rads hoses rubber, batterys, fuel tanks fuel lines, brakes lines, for Rust, wear & corrision. These few essentails items can refurbish an old truck yet cost upwards of 2500-3000 Bucks. A fuel pick-up for my front tank cost $250(New) they haave a tendency to rust flush to the tank.
Be fare to yourself & ask to pull wheels for an overall undercarriage ,estimate your input & bid a lower price accordingly!!
Good Luck ! 110,000mi. is still a virgin.
P.S. Learn about cavitaion of the cylinder walls & inspect coolant for proper PH's Have a oil anyalyse done for bearing wear.
I just bought my 92 f-350 4x4, 7.3, 5 speed,xlt with 2 new sets of tires,american racing rims,aftermarket bumpers,warn winch,cd player,tool box,all new front brake lines,brakes,rotors,calipers,lund visor,with 144,000 on her and I gave 9,000.00 for mine and would do it all over again!!!!!!
My old man paid 8000 CDN for (2) 1991 - F250's 7.3L. / ZF5 standards. EXT cabs.
Right now they have 440,000 kilometers on them.
Both run strong.
I would have no trouble paying 5 grand for a F250 with a ZF5 standard. That transmission alone would cost 2000 to buy seperate. Very strong trucks.
Ya the standard is way better, right after I bought mine , the auto went out and cost $2100. I only paid $3600 for my 91 F-250, it was in really nice shape when I bout it but now is craped out only a year later and I might be able to sell it for $3000, that is after I have put $3000 into it fixing stuff, and now the motor is starting to run bad. Don't get me wrong these are great trucks, but when they are old, and they quit, you kinda of still have to fix them, and the are expensive to fix, all the parts cost more for a diesel. If I had to do it over I would much rather buy a old gas truck. The new diesels are great, last a long time and tons of power, but we have burned up 2 older 7.3s non turbos, in 4 years. Now keep in bind these are real working trucks that see lots of hard pulls.
Just keep in mind that parts are extremly oricey for these trucks
Ya know, I really hesitated to reply to this post but I just have to. I got my 88 F250 7.3 with about 240k about 4 months ago. Installed 2 batteries, an alternator, full set of filters and 1 tire. All in all about $550US to make roadworthy. Price for the truck? I drew up 2 blueprints for the PO.
I think I did pretty good.
(I was after the guy for a year to sell it to me. He probably thinks he got off well also.)
