It's an IDI. Best way to tell is the head bolts, both have 12 point heads but 7.3 is 1/2" and 6.9 is 7/16"

There's a very good chance it is a 7.3. The fuel filter head is the 7.3 design. Looks exactly like a stock 88.

What year is the truck?

They didn't put the 6.9 in anything after 1987. They didn't go to a turbo option until 93, so you've definitely got a 7.3 non-turbo motor there(unless someone swapped it, but I doubt that).

the only real way to know is either by the head bolts, or the block ID number. the 6.9 looks identical to the 7.3.
if the original engine in the truck blew, they could very well have dropped a 6.9 in it and used the 7.3 accessories. i have seen it quite a few times, and have even done it myself.
