I seem to recall an after market bolt on OD for the early Ford Diesel trucks. I am racking up about 700 miles/week on my truck these days and I would really like to drop the RPM at highway speed. Was there such a after market add on or is my memory playing tricks on me again? By the way, it was minus 30 C outside this morning and the truck fired up with out any problems after being plugged in for 4 hours. Who says the 6.9's had cold starting problems?
Gear Vendors can provide an overdrive unit for your truck. I had one on my 88 which had the C-6 trans and the unit worked well for me. I am not sure if there any other companies that provide od units, but I am sure there is other people that can provide info for you. Good luck and keep us posted. Bill

These guys have a nice looking unit, but it only works in 2 wheel drive high range. Install looks fairly easy. about 2600 US dollars. www.usgear
This unit works in all gears and drive modes, but the install looks like a nightmare revisited. Shorten gas tank, move transfer case, refab linkage to transfer case, front drive shaft longer, rear driveshaft shorter, bend floor pans on crew cabs and on and on.
I don't know how much of an overdrive you want but quite a bit can be gained by larger tires. Usually overdrives are from ten to fifteen percent over 1:1. Tires that were ten percent bigger around will give you the same thing for a lot less money.
