Im thinking about selling my '51 F1 but i have no idea what its worth. I paid 3000 for it less than a year ago but i dont know if it was a good deal. It has 94,000 orig miles and was a farm truck. The V8 flathead engine is supposedly rebuilt but i have no receipts. It runs great and i put a new clutch in the 4-speed tranny (out fo a '47 ford truck). the frame and suspension is like brand new. Its not powdercoated but is painted black. The body isnt missing any parts but does have bondo on the fenders and the running boards are rotted out. I have the complete fabric harness but its not installed and I have all the rest of the parts to finish putting it back together. Unfortunately im out of space and dont have the time for another project. It spent its life in a barn and i have it in my garage out of the weather. Im the third owner. The second owner had the motor, suspension, and frame done and then sold it to me. The truck was bought on Long Island and hasnt left yet. I guess ill always be able to find another one when the timing is better. If anyone is interested i can post pictures. Any feedback is appreciated
Where were you when I was looking for a truck? Sounds like a great project truck. You should have no trouble selling it. In fact, even though I don't have any room for another project right now, I'll give you $500 for it right now....CASH! heh, heh, heh.
No i know you were joking. Im surprised I havent received any replys on this. Im not looking for an exact amount, but rather a starting point. Im thinking asking 4000, but the market for these trucks here on Long Island is small. hmmmmm
Ther's always ebay. If you have all the parts to finish, and the quality of work is good, $3000-$4000 is fair as the body does need work. But the chassis is done. As long its complete with not alot of missing parts, -4speed
I didn't answer 'cause I hate to rain on anyone's parade, but here's my 2 pence -
I can still find $500 project trucks (like mine was) that need total restoration. I put approx $6000 in parts plus labor into making it a daily driver. Body and paint could use some help, but mechanically it is a new truck. From what I see of the market I could probably get $3500 for it.
If I had the body/paint done right it would run another $3-5,000.
You're right, there just isn't the market for these like some vehicles. From your description I'd be willing to give 2500 for a truck like that, but with the work that needs to be finished I'd start with an offer of 1500.
On the other hand I'm looking at a project car that is in similar shape to my $500 truck and the asking price is 3700 - and is probably a fair price. Supply and demand is the key. You might find someone happy to pay 4000 - and I hope you do.
I just bought my 51 ford from a guy in Kansas and had it shipped to me in VA. He sold it to me for $2500. I found it on autotrader.com under the classic vehicle section. There are several fords between 48-53 for sell. I've seen junkers for 500 and prices as high as $25,000. You can at least look at the pics the gauge what you would sell yours. Some trucks I saw and the price were simply rediculous.
I'm stripping my truck down to the frame do the the surface rust all over the frame and under the body. It appears I may have to replace some body parts due to the fact I'm not a welder and the cost of the parts are relatively inexpensive. But I guess with all the nickle and diming it will add up. But I want a nice looking 51.
did you see the barret jackson the other day... I wasn't really playing attention.. but a really nice ford truck/street rod went for somthing like 25 k.
I think some of the people bidding in that auction had more money than they had sense. A rodded '55 Chevy worth $210,000, a 38 Lincoln Zephyr worth $400,000? How about that guy that paid over $600,000 for 4 Calloway Vettes? I think they're nuts...
These are guys, I suppose, will never get their hands dirty to work on a car and money is never an issue. Also if they are making so much money to pay for cars like that, I doubt they would have enough time anyway.
i payed 1750 for a 51 project truck with a chopped top and it was originaly an f8 firetruck cab with perfect floors and cab corners but the nose is a little rought and it has a 48-50 hood it also has a 429 and c6 no bed or running boards
