I'll bet there would be a way to disable the factory lock mechanism from the outside and hook the key up to a dead bolt that went right into the door jamb. You'd have to reinforce the door jamb, but that is a good idea! If you were really slick you could have it not only turn the dead bolt out, but also activate the factory lock mechanism all from the one key turn. Nobody would ever get that door open then! Problem is, they could just break a window. But it's an idea.

I'd probably add the deadbolt in as an extra measure of security. As far as the actual deadbolt is concerned, you could use any piece of metal stock. You could go from the door into the jamb or vice versa. I would run it off of a remote - you can pick up the ones just for door locks fairly cheap - and use door lock actuators to set the bolt (last time I bought them, they were under $20 each). A thief would have no clue as to why the doors wouldn't open. Plus, no matter what they did to try and disengage the bolts (cut power) they couldn't! As a safety/backup I would run a hidden keyswitch somewhere (front grill, or anywhere) and have a back up battery (could be quite small, just enough to power the remote brain & actuators). That way you would be able to open the doors if your battery died. Actually, now that I've thought it through, methinks I may just try it out on mine!

My luck the computer would crash. I can see it now, I'm driving down the parkway and all of the sudden the whole cab is tinted blue inside and I've got that dang error message staring at me! I'll have to wait 5 minutes to rebot before I can see out the windshield again. Humm, I'd better get a BIG brush guard...
