Just put in a Killswitch with a push pull switch in my bronco today! I got the idea on this site, anyone else got one, I was hoping for some unique ideas to confuse the theifs!!
Im not sure how it could be hooked up in a modern electronic vehicle but when I was young I had a 63 chev bel air that I modified the wiring to the starter solenoid to include a small pressure plate under the carpet up located up high near the firewall that would be activated by placing my foot on it.
It was just two pieces of sheet metal with one having a bit of a crease in it to give it some spring action. this was connected to a relay which in turn completed the solenoid circuit. I also had a bypass switch for when I had a shop working on it. or if a friend wanted to borrow it etc.
Those are some GREAT ideas. I really like that idea about the pressure switch under the floor mat/carpet. So you just had to make sure that you pushed it down with your foot when you turned the key? It didnt matter if you let off after it started? That is a very novel idea.
I am wantin to put in a switch sometime. I guess it will be just one of those do it to do it projects seeing how I dont think anyone would want my bronco. ha ha A face only a mother (or father in this case) could love...
Yeah, my Auto Shop teacher had a momentary push switch mounted to the floor-board of his truck under the carpet, you would just push the switch down, start the truck and let off of the switch, I think he said his was mounted to the starter wire! By the way anyone wanting to do this, the starter wire on my 94 is red with a light blue stripe, just cut it in half, strip the ends, take the two ends of the wires and mount them on the switch, this interrupts the circuit to the starter. I would have by far like to do that pressure plate idea, but sounds really complicated.
I'm not sure exactly how it was done, but a friend of mine in high school used his cigarette lighter as an interupt for the ignition switch. You had to open the ash tray and push in the lighter to use the key.
I cut off the electric fuel pump. Have an alarm system. Lock every thing of importance in a big metal box when the top is off and leave the doors open.
How hard was it to cut off the fuel pump?? Happen to know what color the wires were to the fuel pump and where they are located, might do this along with the starter killswitch!!
I've done quite a few kill switches for people (used to do custom/trick stereo installations and alarms). I've done the lighter trick - it's quite fun actually. One of the more sneaky ones was a microswitch in behind the drink holder! If the drink holder was pulled out 1/8th of an inch, the vehicle didn't start! You could use the ashtray light switch (open ashtray, no power), or any other switch that isn't used - the previous owner replaced the rear window with one that doesn't have defrost, so I have a switch on the dash doing nothing......
I thought that the defrost button would be cool, I hardly use my defroster anyways, one reason being the tint, another being I don't need it, maybe I'll keep the one I have for the starter and use the Defroster button for the fuel pump shut off.
CoolCasper- Any way to get the doors deadbolted or any similar idea??
