Hey all! I've just been wondering if I went overboard when I bought my truck, I paid $2500. Is that a good buy, ok buy, or even a bad buy? You can look at my gallery to see her, she's a '78 150 XLT and she's got the 351M, C6 (I think), and is in pretty good shape, 170k though. She still hauls a*s too!
Anybody want to confirm my fears or put them to rest? I just got her a couple months ago and I'm still making payments.
Hey,
I learned a long time ago, that all that matters is...whats it worth to you....especially if you plan on keeping it or using it. That rule applies to alot of things, not just vehicles either.
Was it worth 2500 bucks to you? If so then it doesn't matter what I say or anyone else.....I paid 1000 bucks for a 78 ford that I used for parts. Was it a good deal? Maybe not, but I knew what I was getting and what it was worth to me. Have fun and take care.

It looks like a nice truck to me. If it's reliable and solid and it does what you want then congrats and enjoy it. You could spend that much and get way less vehicle.
One note. It looks to me like the dash has been swapped. Check under the dash to see if the wiring harness is in good shape or if it has been butchered. If the dash was swapped it's not necesarily bad, but you might want to find potential problems now before the arise later.
Dash is original as far as I can tell, I bought it from a used car dealer who'd purchased it new for their parts truck. He said all they'd ever replaced was the water pump, radiator and heater core everything else was original.
It looks original, everything is in its place and unabused looking. I assume you say that since it's brown, but the door panels are the same color as well as the seat.
The truck looks good and solid; paint intact. You say it runs good and has all the pieces parts. You have an excellent start for a great restoration. congratulations on a great find
Another thought, too: They aren't making any more of these trucks. That truck looks to be in pretty good shape overall. Parts are way less expensive for these old trucks (even a reman. engine). Plus, the people on this board are an unbelievable resource. When you post here, people respond fast and they know what they are talking about.
Yes I pointed out the dash because it's brown in a red and white truck. I would have expected the dash to be either red or white. The original owner may have ordered this combo though.
Enjoy the truck and keep us posted on how it runs.
