4 wheel drive hub Question

I have a 99' Powerstroke 4x4 with manual locking hubs and I have been told these are better than remote locking hubs, although less convenient. My brother is looking to buying a 99-2003 Power Stroke and was surprised my truck did not have remote locking hubs. He has a Tahoe with the remote hubs and really likes them and has had no problems. What are the pros and cons? He is now not sure which to look for while he shopping for a PowerStroke.

Thanks!

I just found a similar recent post that may have answered the questions my brother has.

Thanks,

I have a 97 powerstroke with manual hubs and i really like them. First off ive had a lot fewer problems with them than the automatic ones. The main reason i like them is if you really need a bunch of pulling power to back a trailer up a steep hill lets say from a stop, you can not lock in your hubs, and put your vehical in 4-lo, this gives you a ton of power to your rear wheels.

I have a 99 super duty with auto hubs, I won't make that mistake again. Vacuum leaks can cause a serious wreck. I was lucky, coming slowly down a steep snow covered grade, as I applied the brakes the rear end got loose and finally resulted in a complete three sixty. The truck was stuck. I manually locked the hubs and drove out of the ditch. After investigating I found the light stays on even when the hubs are not locked any more from a loss of vacuum. I manually locked the hubs after that and have not had the same problem, same steep hill every morning going to work. What happens is this. When you break at slow idle speeds with the hubs unlocked the front wheels want to stop, the rear don't because the engine is applying torque, result is uneven breaking between front and rear wheels. I have had the truck to the dealer for warranty service and finally gave up. Service manager even hinted he wouldn't own auto of this type. If this truck wears out before I do I won't replace it with another with auto hubs. I've had it since new.
