question #1:
my 02 diesel IS NOT remote compatible.
i am using a viper remote start with door lock option for door remotes.
is there any way to adapt a door keypad to this system?
this morning i had to break into it AGAIN, after my mother accidentally hit the lock button while getting out of the truck. of course i was there at the door helping her out, and the spare keys were in my jacket pocket, inside the running truck.
question #2:
the 2000 F350 4X4 gas engine truck has a noise like loose rocks in the hubcaps when the front hubs are locked, but it goes away once the hubs are unlocked. i am thinking a bad locking hub. any other ideas?
and no, i have not tried locking the t-case in 4 wheel yet to see if the noise is there with the hubs unlocked.
I am thinking it is your locking hub. I have the same problem right now, except I can hear my when unlocked too, it just gets much louder locked. I haven't torn the hub apart to investigate, I just ordered a new set of autolock hubs this morning.
As for the remote access/door pad I don't really have an idea. I almost wonder if a door with a keypad, the correct wiring harnesses, and possibly an electronic module and you would be good to go. If that's true, find a donor and I bet it would be pretty simple. That's all purely speculation though....

Why cant you put the auto start in, I have one in my truck, you just have to move the dip switches to set how long to wait before it starts to crank her over.

How are the u-joints in the front? We go through a lot from the plowing, sounds like lug nuts in a coffee can.
hmmm. never thought of u-joints.
the truck has only been on the road for a year, and the other day was the first time i ever locked the hubs.
Maybe they got water forced into them and just rusted apart, There is not to much to the hubs, and the guts are plastic and aluminum turn the wheel curb to curb and lift up on the shaft/u-joint with a prybar, should be tight, if there flopping, your pulling the hubs, my friend.
You could always just carry a spare key in your pocket.
Ford does sell the stick on number keypad that is battery operated and can be programmed to work with Ford and some aftermarket locks. I'd suggest you try and find the install instructions and read them to see if it might work with your Viper. It's been too many years since I've done it, but I put the number keypad on the wife's truck.

Or your wallet, inside the house, on your wife's key ring... I had a lot of spares for my SD. I was notorious for locking my keys in that truck. I never had an issue with it though because no matter where I was a spare was close by.

no good. the stick on keypad will only work with the ford GEM, and my truck is not remote accessible
. i tried when i got it, that is why i put the viper unit in it.

Your 4wd does work correct?
the spare keys were in my jacket pocket, and my wallet with the spare key in it was in my jacket. in the locked truck.
yes the 4X4 works, just makes noise like rocks in a hubcap when the hubs are locked. .
It's real easy to jimmy the lock on the super duty, Ya just have to buy the wedge and the s- shaped tool, there small and easy to hide, under a bed liner, or zip tied to the spare tire, I have the whole kit from Snap-on but those are the only two tools I use around here.
i use a 18 inch screwdriver to open the door, and a 36 inch piece of 1/8 steel rod to push the lock button.. on other trucks.
but the screwdriver was in the back seat, so i had to use the 26 inch pry bar that was in the bed. .
this is only the second time in almost 8 years i have had to pop the door on my truck.
i am going to put a key somewhere in the bed of the truck, probably under the air compressor or the retractable hose reel.
i have a cover on the bed, so i am not worried about it being in the weather.
