installed boost,egt,and trans gauges and microtuner 80hp program 2 weeks ago. hooked up fifth wheel (9000 lbs) and took the family on a vacation. i know the program is only rated a 4000 lbs but i just had to try it. i noticed that i had to keep an eye on the egt's very closely when under load, egt's would climb to 1200 very quickly. i have a 3.5" downpipe with 4" magnaflow exhaust. if i change down pipe to a 4" will this keep the egt's down? What else could be done to keep the egt's down? i like the performance of the 80hp program but i can't get the full benefit of it when towing.

A 4" DP may help but some poeple complain about losing low end torque. You could also straight pipe where the muffler is. Have you opened up the intake with a better filter system? I have the AFE magnum Force and it took me down about 50*F on my stock truck.

You'll be okay if you keep it below 1250 constant. You can go with a bigger down pipe, 4" generally isn't detrimental. When you start going with a 5" exhaust you'll typically start getting compromises. Also, as noted, a cold air intake such as the AFE Magnum force sold by this site (click "Online Store") will help lower temps and also allow slightly quicker spool up on high HP settings.
