swapping a tailgate

How easy would it be to swap the 1986 tailgate with the metal insert with an other style tailgate?

Pretty easy if you do it right. Otherwise it might be a little harder.

depending on what style of gate, I've an 88' box on my 83' truck, and with the different latches, pins, stops, while the gates are the same dimensions, all of the hardware is different... good luck..

Any gate off a Ford truck (except stepsides) from 80 to 86 will go right on. Beyond those years might be a problem.
