Wat is the difference between the E4OD and the 4R100? What did they come in. I thought there was one for the PSD and one for the V 10. With the PSD tranny able to handle the torque of the PSD. I want to know which one I have, and if there is an optional auto for the PSD or just one......just curious. I believe my '02 S/D PSD has the 4R100, but just want to make sure.
The 4R100 is an evolution of the E4OD. All 1999-up Super Duty trucks (with an auto tranny ) and Excursions come with the 4R100. However, there are different internal components of the 4R100 depending on engine selection. Considering the 4R100 also went into some F150s & Expeditions (not to be confused with the Excursion), you can see how there can be several "versions" of the 4R100. The "version" used behind the PSD is supposed to be the strongest.
Cool!!!! This clears things up. I thought what you are telling me was the case, but I just wanted to make sure. By the way, how are the 4R100's holding up behind the PSD? I do not beat mine, but I do work it hard. I had an older E4OD in a '90 F-250/460. At 5000 miles the torque converter quit, Ford rebuilt it with "upgraded parts" and it went over 150,000 miles without a single problem. Just want to make sure the 4R100 will hold up as well with the PSD.
The guys running chips seem to have more problems than the stockers. The reasons are obvious= more heat, stress, torque, etc. I've heard some autos last 3000 miles and some 150,000 miles, but then again the same has happened with "stick shakers".
Suncoast transmissions seem to be gurus on the PSD auto's. I would run synthetic fluid in a PSD tranny, and will also do it in my V10 at the first service change interval.:-)
