Question Disc Brake shields

Hi All,

I was installing a new brake line on the left front wheel today and noticed that the disc brake shield has rusted loose and pretty much flops back and forth.

Are those shields available at Advanced or Autozone or other parts stores?

Thanks,

Scott

Checked with Napa, Carquest, and Ford dealership - the first two couldn't order them and the Ford parts dept, said they became "discontinued" in April of 2001. But he gave me a number of a place in Liberty, Ky, that carries obsolete parts. Will give them a call.

If anyone else knows where I can get these disc brake shields (stock units that protect the front disc rotors from debris), please let me know

thanks,
Scott

Ever fabricated tin peices out of sheet metal?
It's amazing what you can do with a hammer and an old bar stool...

To smooth it use a solid piece of metal to back it up and a ball peen or dinging hammer.

If you've seen the Jesse James documentaries you know exactly what I'm referring to.

Yeah, but custom is "Da Kine!"

The man is from Somerset Kentucky - who knows of a good yard around there?

Visiting local junk yards had occurred to me...but I'm afraid that any I find in a junk yard will be as rusty/useless as the one flapping on my front end.

Another consideration - what years used the same part numbers? Can I broaden my search to newer years that may have used the same rotor shields?

Thanks,
Scott

One of mine looks like the wheel came off and skidded on the ground. I checked with ford last year and they told me they were available at $50 apiece. I DON"T THINK SO. Those are tin foil. My old chevy had steel ones. Wonder if I could make them fit.

The more I think about it, the more I'm wondering why I'm considering finding/buying/making new ones!

When disc brakes first started showing up on dirt bikes, they didn't have no stinkin' guards! I'm not going to subject my truck to massive off-road abuse (not too often anyway ), so why do I really need to worry about them?
