The difference between a die and a thread chaser
A die has a tappered opening to funnel it onto the bolt or rod you are cutting threads onto The threads start shallow on the bottom and gradually get deeper.
A thread chaser is basically just a nut with openings drilled in the treads to allow dirt and rust to come out of the individual threads as it is threaded onto the bolt or stud.
Yes, Sears has thread chasers available as a set for standard and metric with the files.
I have a set of Chase'm Back split chasers. They are hinged so you can clean a damaged stud from the good treads to the tip to avoid cross-threading. Most of the tool trucks can get the set.
Hanson "private labels" tap and die sets for most of the tool industry suppliers Mac, Snap-on, Matco, and Sears. The difference is price. Craftsman is usually less.

Yea I cant say I havent had this problem since I have been in a machine shop for 5 years and when i need something I just go shopping
