I have 1995 F150 fourwheel drive with a E40D transmission and when the transmission gets hot it dumps the fluid on the ground.
This will only happen when it gets hot. Under normal conditions it will never leak a drop. I have install a trans cooler but it does not help. If any one can advise me on what to do it would be greatly appeciated.
I just went throught a similar problem and was 200 miles from home. Make sure the level in the engine radiator is full. Mine was low although the engine temp gage was in the normal range. You may have a very slow leak in the transmission resulting in an overheating transmission at times. But, what I have discovered for myself is that I had been misreading the dipstick on my transmission and I had been overfilling my transmission last week while out of town. I kept pulling over and putting too much fluid back into the trans. The trans. would get hot and dump out of the front seal. So, after letting things cool down overnight, I made certain to get the level right and topped off the engine coolant. I drove 200 miles to get home (not a drop leaked out) and now I am going to change the trans. fluid. Also, this caused the Overdrive light to start flashing and hard shifting. I disconnected the batteries for a minute and the light stopped flashing and the shifting returned to normal. This is on a 1996 F-350 7.3 diesel.
