there was one of those suburbans near my dad's house. the person changed suburban to DUALURBAN. they did a nice job w/the letters too. it matched the stock ones. i thought the whole truck looked nice. i think ppl do this for the same reason you'd get a four door bronco conversion or a really expensive paintjob. they want their truck to stand out.
Speaking of duallys, any of you guys have 'phantom duallys' running around?? They are duallys with huge racing slicks on the rear. Theres a beautiful black one here, dropped, with a healthy 502 (i think) under the hood. It's nice, but it's still a Chevy!

There's one on eBay. Most Burb duallies are professionally converted and delivered to the dealer.
I've owned serveral dullies (not a Burb) for many years and they're great for towing. I drove my '93 F350 dually from Va to Ca towing a 3 car trailer loaded. I could hardly feel the loaded trailer behind me...except when I hit the Sierra mountains .
A company called Arrowcraft Products makes dually conversion kits. Its as close as you can get to buying a dually.
Now for the 1500, they probably used the stock wheels and called JC Whimpy and got the coffee can 5 lug (or 6, whatever those chevys use) dually adapters.
On a 1500 or 1/2 ton anything, a dually is practiacly pointless, drivetrain isnt stout enough to handle loads that a dually would help inprove. If you are dead set on converting to a dually, at the very least, get an 8 lug vehicle (3/4 or 1 ton) so you can tow something respectiable.
For the record, i do like the way TRUE dually suburbans look (with real dually wheels), esp if they are towing
