HOW MUCH WILL IT HOLD??????

Look. I like fords. I have one. One job my dad and I had required a lot of concrete. If I recall correctly. We had 20 bags of 60 or 80lb quikrete concrete on the back of my truck. The only modification we have done to the suspension of my F-150. I said F-150 not anything bigger was air shocks on the rear. We had em pumped up. and hauled off with that. Yes it was sitting down some but it still ain't broke. I have also had good loads of wet sand and and firewood on my truck since then. It still isn't broken. Hmm. Another story. An 89 Ford diesel. hauled a 20' trailer loaded with 120lb bags of concrete mix like it was nothin. This was across sandy ground too. That trailer wasn't light either cause my dad built it. I think I shall stick with Ford....:-staun

Sherlock and Watson is the F-150 with the 4.9. need I say more.

We have owned Fords for years and worked them like dogs with no problems. We have an '83 F-150 that's hauled huge loads of hay, cattle, or whatever else...we even put a 4'x5' round bale of hay in the back of it along with 6 more on the trailer when hauling hay and it was also a daily driver. It's never had a new engine or transmission, just one engine rebuild. Our '02 F-150 has also hauled hay, cars, tractors, and cattle with no problems and it was way over the "rating." Also, I would put my new F-350 PSD up against a Durajap anyday. As others have said, that's why most emergency and construction vehicles are Fords. Give me the Ford power anyday.

I think most people miss the limiting factor in GVW ratings and in particular, tow ratings. It is not suspension, but cooling capacity. Mfrs vary in their the way they measure cooling capacity. Some require the engine to maintain normal operating temp on a 100F day with no grade, others add grade. In general, Ford is a lot more conservative in this matter. They require normal temps at 100F on a 2% grade if my memory serves me correctly. This is why you can overload your truck and it will function correctly. Second, every manufacturer knows the truck will be overloaded by 50% at some point, they have stats to prove this out. Thus, the suspension is overdesigned from the what the rating is to handle this abuse.
