I have a '96 powerstroke with manual trans. Does anybody have a place to get just the dampener on the flywheel. I've been told that there is a rebuild kit but can't find anything.
I have been wrong from time to time, but if it is truly the flywheel you seek to fix, I would reccomenf a LUK clutch and flywheel replacement. The 94-97 have a dual mass flywheel and it is factory balanced (ie un-serviceable).
Others, Please correct me if I am wrong. I just wanted to offer my knowledge.
I just put a Valeo solid flywheel on my 94. The new flywheel and clutch set cost me about 650$ shipping included. The New dual mass that the ford dealer wanted to sell me was 1200$. Wasen't a hard decision for me. And I belive the above post is right that you can't rebuild the dual mass.
I would go to the solid flywheel also. I put one in my service truck and it has been working great for over a year. Just remember to keep the part number for your new clutch set, because it will be different.
The solid flywheel in the Luk kit is not a valeo unit. Luk makes their own complete smfw kit and has been out about 5 yrs and valeo makes a kit which has been out around 1 yr. I would not go back with the original dmfw. The smfw kits carry higher torque capacities, are more durable, and cost alot less. You can find additional info about these kits at www.carolinaclutch.com or give me a call 888-462-2739

Hmmmm, perhaps it was the pressure plate then? I just put a LUK repset in my truck 10 days ago and am quite sure one of the components had Valeo cast into it.
When this dampener was going out or went out however you want it, everytime you pushed the clutch in it would shake real bad. Without the dampener won't it shake like mad?? Just a concern. Your help has been GREAT!!
This Single unit has a Spring that compresses and releases in series to dampen the vibration, instead of two halves insulated by springs as in the stock setup.
