64 292 Manual Trans - Correct Harm Balancer
Howdy -
In the process of teardown on my 64 250. I saw a post somewhere about Harmonic Balancers / Dampeners and something was mentioned about a solid dampener without any rubber being from a 6cyl? Can anyone point me to a source where to purchase the correct one for my 292 with 4 speed manual trans / flywheel? Cause the PO has a solid (no rubber) dampener on this 292...!
Thanks -

I don't recall ever seeing a harmonic balancer without a rubber unless a race only application. This is what I used on the last 292 I built earlier this year. I think this is the same as Mummert sells.

The solid damper is from early Y-Blocks. You will want to look at block and head numbers in order to confirm that it is a 292. The earliest parts don't interchange with the later stuff so if you have an early engine, other parts you may need will be incorrect, if they are ordered for a '64.

My Block is a C2AE which indicates 62-64 truck. However...I have a stack of receipts from PO where this engine was rebuilt, bored .060 about 40,000 miles ago back in the 90's. Don't have it out and apart yet to check crank casting numbers, etc., but the block is for sure 292. Possibly wrong damper stuck on it at some point when the correct one slipped...as they do. Just guessing. Thought I saw somewhere the solid was for the 6cyl. Where do I find the ford part number on this one?? Thanks.
Howdy,
I have one rebuilt by the Damper Doctor that came off my 60 292. DamperDoctor
I am not going to use it so if you want it, PM me.
It's the one on the left (Obviously!)
Cheers,
Rick
