hey everyone, i plan on havin my 351w rebulit soon into a stroker engine performer heads and camshaft ,intakemanifold probaly edelbrock parts. i was wondering if when i put the high hp tranny and drivshaft in, should i put that in first? would the tranny and drivshaft screw up my engine mess everything up with my stock engine? dumb question lol i know ive got a c-6 auto tran in there right now. whats a good high hp one for my 88 bronco? thanks
A stock C6 can take one hell of a beating, so you could just have a shop rebuild it and they could beef it up with maybe a moded valve body or something, Who makes a high HP driveshaft, don't see why you would need one of those. You could check on a lock up torque converter.
I had my C6 done by a Shop that build's monster truck trannys,it's pretty radical now. It's good for 800 horse.I have 38's and it will chirp them in 2nd.Here are the spec;s on my tranny.I also got a driveshaft made by High Angle Driveline's that will take a heck of a beating. http://www.superford.org/?vID=4037
The C6 should be able to handle any amount of power you want to throw at it . . . within reason. One thing you might want to look into is swapping the first gear from an E4OD. I believe that the lower first gear of the E4OD will swap into the C6 and that should give you a little better acceleration and a better crawl ratio.
Your correct OJRoy,That's what I did to mine.Tran's king make's a low gear set using steel plantaries instead of pot metal.You go from a 2.46 1st to a 2.72 1st and from a 1.46 2nd to a 2.54 2nd.
The stock ratio's for a C6 are 2.46 1st
1.46 2nd
1.00 3rd
Thr low gear set is 2.72 1st
1.54 2nd
1.00 3rd
These are correct. You can check it out. http://tciauto.com
COBRAjrb> where abouts are you? and what are you gonna be doing with this thing??
i just ordered my tranny last week from broader proformance in dracut ma he is a decient guy and knows FORDS i don't think he would build a powerglide just fords
i got a C6 tranny as below
RV/towing tranny 4 pinion planatary heavy reverse mech more clutches(through out it) and not the regular HD ones he uses but the really good HD HD ones
kevlar bands
wide ratio gears
all (loaded) thrust washers replaced with roller bearings
stock plastic thrust washers replaced ("not loaded" (little wear)) swapped for nice bronze ones even though they aren't under pressure
billet servo arm i picked up a used r-ratio billet servo on ebay(100 delivered)
got a fair banks 2 stage for (15(lol 15) delivered) on ebay was in the old yellow box not the new purple one like i give a crap
man ya got to love the ebay
picked up a heavyduty towing/rv/off road low stall tourque cover(3 days b4 it went sending scratnal thru my tranny)
(where was i)
he is porting a bit to run above 6500 (not for the 351m i got but planning ahead)
etc etc etc
btw he still sells it for 500 hp but comfirmed thats just a liability thing
after i get my core back its 1100
ok now got to find a flex plate .187 thick?? can't find one thats couterweighted
hey if your on the east coast check him out

battereed bronco, the place that did my tranny does the transmissions for some of Paul Shaffer's monster truck's(Carolina Crusher etc).So I told them I needed a tranny that will hold up to big tires and lot's of horsepower. He said don't worry they'll take care of it.I figured if there building them for monster truck's then they know what to do to make them last.
hate to be contrary(well not really) but monster trucks are esentually drag racing verickiles the have to last about a quarter mile then they can cool off ...ie sit in traffic too long and its burnt up just like a racing motor...
like any compitaint tranny guy will tell you a towing tranny has to be stronger and more durable than a racing one
a racing tranny has to be light too jay's racing trannys(big time but no names) use a 3 pinion planatary wich is not as strong/durable as the 4 pinion in the towing/rv but a sight lighter
also in racing they use just enough steels(using a huge amout of pressure) to get it to bite weight is an issue but heat is not as big a deal
basically what is harder on a tranny 1/4 thrash down a strip/over a few jumps/flattened cars or pulling 10,000 lbs gvw a couple hundred miles though rolling hills
