It's stupid to spend $5,000 unless the doc is buying a new yacht
Don't know. Seems stupid to me to go to KMart to get my eyes fixed :-)
This is just not something I'm going to let Money be of concern. Dr. Dell is one of the best in the country, using the latest and greatest that only a few doctors have.
I'm looking at the procedure describe in the second paragraph on this page.
I am part of te mostly blind crowd here at FTE. I wear the glasses because they are ANSI z - ??? safety glasses and I can wear them all the time, I can't count the number of times that something has bounced off these lenses, and I am so glad that I have them, even if I am legally blind without them, I know that I would be blind if it weren't for them.
Been wearing glasses for about 12 years now, contacts are just too much trouble when you're lazy. When I get to money for lasik, I sure ain't gonna find the lowballer.
I just recently went to get my eyes examined. The doctor told me that I had 20/20 vision without my glasses, which are a mild perscription, and that I had better than 20/20 with them.
To answer your question, I don't "need" glasses, but I do wear them when driving.
I have serious pollen allergies(and today I went and got 40 more bales of hay for the critters) and astigmatism, and like mattsbox99 I've had so much crap bounce of of them I'm better off with them.
excellentred, do you sleep in them too? They say not to but I dont know. Whatever works. Taking them in and out every day is a pain, they have extended wear ones yu can wear for 30 days and nights though.
Ever blink out a contact while flying? I did it once on a long final. Talk about depth perception going out the window. Glad they have VASI.
I wish I could do the laser surgery. 10% chance I'd get all my vision back. 95% chance I'd get 50% of my vision back. My eye doctor tries to talk me into it every time I go. I can't see why I should spend that much money on a chance and still wind up having to were contacts after the operation. Better odds at Vegas.
Conacts aren't that much of a pain. Its more of a routine everyday kind of like taking a shower.
Some people can wear contacts overnight. It all depends on how much protein an eye produces. Mine a like little protein factories so I need to take them out each night and clean them.
At about 10 inches I can't even read front page headlines.
Here's another plug for Lasik...best dang $988 I ever spent. For most of my adult life I was 20/400. While still not as bad as some, it still translates into not being able to do much without glasses. In my line of work (military) glasses are a huge liability. If a bad guy knocked my glasses off, or took them from me...well, he pretty much had me. Had the procedure done two years ago, zero complications, zero side affects, and I'm still 20/30 on my worst day.

Kind of a unique one with me, even the Optometrist won't acknowledge it. I have "Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy" it's like "Muscular Dystrophy" except instead of destroying your "Muscular System" it destroys your "Central Nervous System". So sometimes I have problems focusing on objects close to me, but not always. Opto Guy is calling me a fraud because he can't pin down my prescription. What do you say to someone like that? (EAT MY SHORTS???) So sometimes I wear glasses and sometimes I don't !
Okay back to the reasoning of paying more to get better lasik. The same machine is used by all eye docs that do this surgery and if you do your research you'll find that the higher priced guys are just doing fewer and getter richer then a doc with a lower price. You can shop this around but if spending MORE makes you think your getting a better doc and a better machine I understand and I think many of the eye docs doing this work on your fear since it is our eyes they are dealing with. They have quite a racket going.
Sounds like you did your research TLD. The reason i wouldn't go witht he cheapest guy is because of a stoy I watched on the news last year. Seems that some doctors say you're a good canidate for the procedure, even though some people can't get it. So they get it done, and their vision was worse than before, like all blurry or tunnelvision. Forget why somepeople couldn't get it done. But I would think the cheaper doctors would be the culprits here.
