I have a 2003 F-250 FX4 Supercab 8ft. Bed that has developed a strange problem. On the passenger side rear bed panel, the panel appears to be buckling. The buckle (looks like a reverse dent) first appeared several months after I purchased the truck.
The first buckle is above the passenger rear wheel opening, it has since progressed into several other areas above the tailpipe. The truck has never been hit and I rarely haul heavy loads.
What really has me concerned is that I noticed another truck yesterday with the exact same problem! The truck was similar except it was a 350. The owner told me he was perplexed as to how his started buckling - he had never been hit either!
I am going to ask the dealer about the problem, and I wanted to see if others have seen this so I can build a case.
I can not tell you about what the problem is, but I can tell you if it is buckling the bed it is a serious problem. What ever is wrong needs to be a top priority. If I had a new truck doing that, I would take off work to be sitting at the dealers door when he opened on Monday, or the first day he was open after I saw the first buckle. Hope you got the other guys name and number.
Darn, after reading this, I had to get up and go out to the garage and check mine. Although mine is a shortbed, I didn't see anything of that nature on any body panel. I would get to the dealer ASAP and find out what is wrong, that is not normal.
And just because you have never damaged the truck since new, does not mean it has not been damaged, they sometimes get damaged in transit or on a test drive and are repaired before they are sold.
Yeah, and if that was the case, and you bought a "new" truck my next stop would be at the lawyers office.
I saw a 69 f150 with a big load on it that had both rear spring hangers broke on it. The springs went up and hit the bed hard enough to rip the mounting bolts through the bed floor. There was no buckling of the sides of the bed after all that. The only damage to the bed was where the top front of the bed hit the back of the cab.
Very interesting.... My 2001 350 lonbed crew cab did the exact same thing on the drivers side. It was a mystery when it appeared and I assumed that someone had hit it with their knee when climbing into the bed over the tire.
I can post a picture somewhere if you like.
