What a great site. I don't know what took me so long to find it and get involved. Well here we go! I think I might have made the mistake of not getting the 4.30 limited slip option when I ordered my truck. I have been doing a lot of researching and from all the information out there (plenty of it) I have narrowed it down to a few. Auburn limited slip, powertrax no-slip or the Detroit Soflock. I realize each one has its benefits and limitations based on my driving habits. But I would really love some input from Ford SD V10 owners. Thanks!
i feel your pain, i did tons of reasearch on what i wanted to go with, as i replaced my stock ford/dana limited slip with an upgrade. I originaly planned on going with a detriot locker, but after much research i decided not to. The only off road my truck see's is hunting spots, fishing spots, and pulling the cargo trailer out to the best dune camping spot and unloading the quads. This sounds like a good reason to need a locker, but mostly i do street driving. Anyway i made my personal decision after talking to experts and reading the detriot web site that lockers are very limited in use in snow and ice conditions, And i make a trip to Glamis, Oregon dunes and up to WA everywinter to see family, occasionally encountering snow and ice, so i decieded not to go that route. I went with the auburn limited and it was a much improvement over stock, with the stock limited slip if i turned a sharp corner, like out of a gas station etc onto the road and put in some V10 power the inside wheel would brake loose and spin, with this auburn, i threw the stock tires back on a left practice black rubber everywhere, and everywhere left TWO equal strips, so i was impressed, and when i pull out of gas station and floor it the inside wheel spins for about one turn, then the other catches and it accelerates like mad. so i am happy, it was very costly($500) and non rebuildable, but supposed to be one of the longer lasting units. I have not had a chance to test it in any serious off road conditions yet. ,or even a chance to test it with my bigger tires yet cause my trucks in the shop waiting for new bilstiens, the slowest shock to ever be shipped. those things take weeks!!! why is it the best equipment always comes with the worst customer service.
Good luck
Rob.
You can't go wrong with the Detroit Softlock, but I had installed a Lockrite locker in the rear of my 97 F350 and have put it in the mud a fair amount and have also put it under a severe amount of stress by loading the 8' bed completely full of firewood several times.
I would by another lokrite. The price I bought it for was $300 I think

Thanks jet. I was reading where the Auburn is a torque driven type limited slip (i.e., the more torque the more lock) and has its limitations if your plan on doing any rock crawling (slow speeds). I don't plan on doing much rock crawling in this beast but I've read where it performs great on the trail. And a front locker might do better anyways in rock crawling situations anyways. I've read a lot of good reviews about the Auburn and has more benefits for my driving habits than not. And I love to hear about the ACCELERATION you've got! Can't wait! The unit also has greater longeivity due to utilizing cone vs clutch components. I think you made a good decision and am definately leaning that way. Not to knock any Detroit fans. Awsome units too! Let me know if you've got any more info on that down the road.
i get my truck out of the shop tonight with the brand new 36" PJ's on it, ill definatly give you a report by sunday night on how it works with the bigger meats.
