If it's a 4wd.it's a 250HD.The light dity was only available in 2wd.on that series of Ford trucks and isn't real common.

front axles

Actually the difference is the front axle assembly itself. In the standard F250 (5500gvwr) the front axle is a Dana 44. An 8 lug version of the half ton front end. In the HD F250(8800gvwr) the front axle is a Dana 50. This is a slightly smaller version of the Dana 60 for all intents and purposes. The housing parts are Dana 50, the outters are Dana 60 parts. Keep in mind that since this is a F250 vehicle that both units are IFS units. The Dana 50 is more desireable than the 44. Hope this helps clear things up for you.

yes they both ttb suspension ,f350s were solid axle

BTW,on the 97 F-250 HD (the old style trucks)there was an emblem added on the tailgate that said Heavy Duty along with F-250.This was added in 97 because the light duty F-250 for that year was based off of the new style F-150.
Hope this makes sense.
