fordlover have a spring shop make you a new add a leaf to put in your spring pack. what size tires you run? i have 36's on my 79 and don't have any trouble with the Il. law
hey skuteman that should work fine other than maybe you might need to put a new disc and pressure plate in, you might have the wrong diameter.

I'm inclined to agree with Ranger429 about the pressure plate. You could always switch to an NP205 attached and run a C6. Neater than sliced bread but there'd be a bunch of shaft switching to do as well as colums. You'd need a donor vechicle.
I'm not sure you'd make any difference in mileage with a 460. N eater motor for sure but as far as making the move for economy reasons.......sounds like buying a fox to guard the chicken house.
I love mine but loaded (canopy, canoe, couple of moose, tent, food, guns, ammo, partner, dog and the like) I get about 11.65 miles to the US Gal. My axle ratios are 3.54 so I can cruise at a fairly low rpm.
I'm switching to straight up timing gears in the hopes of upping it a mile or two per gal. I might down the road some year switch to propane (it's cheap and available everywhere here in BC)
Ranger 429 - The Front has an added leaf already in it...put it in there asr extra support for the snow plow. Then when I added the flat bed, I put and extra spring in the rear leafs also. Ended up making the front sit slightly lower again, so then I thought about evening it out with a slightly larger block in front, but have heard some concerns that using larger blocks is somewhat unsafe maybe.
I really like the sit to a highboy. Tried to research it on here but seem to have had little luck in finding any usefull information on the highboy suspension versus mine. Is there a limit to how many extra leafs I can put in the front? I need to do something due to the extra weight I am assuming will come with the 460.
My truck is in my gallery, and is not lose to being illeagal (yet). But enough suspension lift to accomadate 35's....which I would love to have but wonder if it would put undesireable angles on my plow framework. Anyways, a fullsize with 35's in Il is about all you can do before you get real close to being illeagal, or atleast getting stopped often to check.
Yikes!! If your truck is nearing the illegal mark, guess they'd just nuke me and pass on the checking me out.
I'd be real nervous about putting blocks under your fronts for lift. Here is BC they'll yank you right off the road if you use lift blocks on the front axle. Maybe it's different in Il. but by the sounds of it, they'd just toss your butt in jail and throw the key away. I'd be using leafs for the lift, not blocks.

patsplace-
Yes, your truck would be illegal here, but it looks so nice (thumbs up)!!!! Seems there is a limit to the amount of blocks u can use (inches), but I can not find it in my Illinois Vehicle Code. No big deal, if I want to know, I will call my father (trooper) and he can probably recite it to me.
Seems the suspension lift would be the best idea.
thanks,
Ryan
go to a spring shop and have them make you a new main leaf with a little more arch. drive the truck there and show it to them then pull off the springs and take them back. there is a real good shop in Palatine Il. do NOT use taller block's, very dangerous on the front.
i used to run around with 38 hawg's on the truck and had no problem's, they go by the bumper and frame height and depends on what the gross weight of the vehicle is. mine has the 8100 GVW so i can get by a little taller than the half ton's.
As a word of caution, DO NOT use lift blocks on the front of your truck. There is way too much stress on the front of your truck to have lift blocks between the springs and axle. Just think what could happen if a block were to come out at hiway speed on a curve.
thanx for the help guys, guess I never really thought about having a new main leaf spring built for it.....so simple, yet...never thought of it haha!!
As for the laws guys, thanx for the help, but no problem there....I have the newest issue out now...maybe I am wrong, but I would assume my truck is not too close....but again...with more lift and 35 inch tires if I put them on....I would be willing to bet it would be close.

the 8100gvw is front bumper 28 back 30 and frame is also 28, all in inches from the ground. i did not look in the book i am going by memory here. those violation code book's are very handy to have.
