my truck is a 79 F-250, 4x4, 4 speed with the 351m. As I understand it, Ford did not put the 460 in this truck. I have found the motor mounts made by L&L products, but they are kinda expensive. Anyone know of a cheaper place to get the motor mounts? I am assuming there is no junk yard part swap I can do, but if there is please let me know. I want to do this conversion properly, so if that means dropping a little money on expensive motor mounts, then so be it.
Thanks
Ryan
I did a 400m - 460 swap in a 77 f150 4x4. i got plates that go on the 460 and you still use the 351/400 mounts on the frame perches. the plates were 70 at a local 4x4 shop here in washington.
L&L swap mounts work real nice and they have a life time gaurentee. They went right in with my truck I had to elongate the bolt holes on the towers so the motor would drop in (tells how in the instructions). It is money well spent.
I was less than pleased with the performance of the L&L mounts I used in my truck. The passenger side mount failed 3 months after install. To me, this is unacceptable. I'll be going with these mounts next time. I'm helping a friend install a 460 in a 77 now with these mounts. You have to drill new holes in the towers 2" forward of the stock mounts. They are also $30 less than the L&L mounts.
i used L+L mount's in mine and the motor dropped right in. i haven't got a lot of miles on the swap but with a lifetime warranty on the mount they are'nt that hard to change. i think it was well worth it
I am so glad some of you that have these two different mounts in your trucks replied. Always nice to have the real world experience to help make a good decision. The only question left in my head now is, what exhaust did u guys use on ur setup? I have heard about the frame needing notched with some setups, but not others. I would like to be able to run full length headers that exit normally between the frame rails.
After I painted this old truck, I actually have neglected it. The funny part is, after all the money I have dumped in my mustang and relatively little amount in my truck, the truck is always more satisfying to drive.
I also need to thank torque1st for helping me with my mistake on my account, that fixed me right up.

Fordlover, i used the complete L+L conversion kit and also went with their aluminum pulley's. the fenderwell headers fit real good with no notching, also lifetime warranty headers. i only had to remove my front sway bar as the link's were rubbing on the headers. i will try to find some different sway bar link's to get that reattatched or modify my existing one's.
everything went together fine, no regret's here
A cheaper alternitive to headers is a stock truck manifold (pass. side only). Should be able to find one for <$100. If you do decide to get headers, get L&L's. There are no better headers for this swap.
I have a 79 F150 4x4 I put a 460 in. I too was not impressed with the L&L mounts, but with a grinder I made them work. I had passenger car stock exhoust manifolds and had to notch the frame on the right side.
