Wow, almost a year since I posted & I just got an email that this thread is
alive. None of my replacements sounded right and worse, they weren't
as loud as the original chime. As did clchambers, I finally replaced the foam
ring in my unit. I found mine at an Ace Hardware in the little cardboard
case of drawers full of odd fasteners, etc. There was a drawer full of
"O" rings and I bought the 3 that most closely matched the disk. All metric
as I recall. Went home and one fit the case perfectly. It sounds just like
new. Cost: .25

Hi Rangerang, How about a reply two years later!
Just wanted to say thanks for posting your "O" ring solution. I kept leaving my lights on accidentally and running the battery down on my '91 Ranger (fortunately it's a stick). The chime in this truck has been nearly silent since about 1994 and I never used to have a problem, but now that I have a newer Ranger for a daily driver I guess my brain got re-programmed to rely on the chime. I finally figured out where the chime was, typed the part number in Google, and this thread was the only hit. I scraped the old foam off, found an "O" ring of about the same diameter, re-assembled, and it works like new.
So again... Thank you! I never would have thought about an "O" ring, I would have been trying to slice up foam rubber.

awesome resource!
and now 2010!! Big help... as I inherited a wiring nightmare with my pre-runner project... i had no idea what this thing was! My truck doesn't make any dinging or donging anyway, so I can comfortably remove this now!! Thanks!!!!

The item/the problem/the cure
The item is Ford part number E9EB-10D840-AA Chime Module
The problem was the foam washer had broken down and become too compressed to make the chime audible...if you stuck your head under the dash you could hear it. I've left my headlights on by accident because I am dumb and I couldn't hear the chime module.
The cure was to disassemble the chime module, scrape off the old foam washer, and install a very thin o-ring of the appropriate diameter. I bought the o-ring at my local hardware store. The data from the o-ring package is:
#39 O-RING
P/N 9D0035753B
SKU 0 37155 35753 6
The cost was $0.62 with tax for the o-ring and one man-hour of labor.
Hope this information will benefit someone someday.

Chiming in!
Hey all. Chiming in from late 2017!
I bought a used 1989 Bronco II a few years ago in beautiful shape. I didn't realize it even had a door/headlight/seat belt buzzer for almost a year because the sound was so faint. Last night I located the buzzer module (E9EB-10D840-AA), removed it from the dash and opened it up. Picked up a #39 o-ring and secured it to the diaphragm with some Krazy glue after removing as much of the old foam as possible. At first I thought the #39 was just a hair too big, but it seems to fit just fine. Put it all back together and now I can see why some people ripped their's out it's so loud! I'll never forget to turn off my headlights again!
