I replaced my stock (235/75-16) tires with larger ones but left my spare the stock size. Can any damage be done to the drivetrain by using the smaller spare if I get a flat?
It will be hard on the LS unit in the rearend if you drive very far with it on the rear. Both tires will be turning at different speeds and this will add extra wear on the clutches in the LS unit.

I have the same situation (because I'm to cheep to buy a spare) and I figure if needed, I'd put the spare on and then let some air out of the other ones. hummmm
As mentioned before, don't put in 4wd and also, put the mismatched tires on the front, so that the rear tires are the same size to keep from doin any damage from the rest of the drive line.
There ought to be a properly-sized used tire just sitting in some tire shop's pile that would be happy to ride along under your pickup bed. Twenty-five bucks mounted and balanced......You are paying at least that much for insurance each month, right? Consider it insurance that you might actually use, especially if you are using your 4x4 offroad.

I agree with the following, if nothing else get something that would be closer, but that will still fit under the truck, if your oversized tires are that huge.
