I have a 99 EB and I am experiencing a blinking 4x4 light when I am in A4WD mode. Upon switching to 4H or 4L, the 4x4 light stays on, as it is supposed to, but constantly blinks in the A4WD.
Any thoughts on likely cause(s)? and recommended fixes?
I am having the same problem. it keeps switching back and forth from A4WD to 4x4 no matter which one I am in. Let me know what the shop says. Hopefully it is something that I can fix myself.
hey guys just got my expy back and my problem was the transfer case motor was locked up tighter than 5 virgins in a volkswagen. so i got a new motor put on along with some sort of relay to the transfer case. now everything works just fine. also does anyone know if the A4WD light is supposed to blink when you turn it on?? hope this helps some people.....
Great! If I may, how much did it end up costing you to get the problem fixed (for both the transfer case motor and the relay)?
Response to your question.....I am not sure about the 97, but in a 99 the default position is A4WD. Only upon switching to 4D or 4L, does the 4x4 sign lights up on the dashboard.
I had the same thing happen on my 98 EB and the guys at Ford said the switch needs adjusted from time to time. I guess it signals both the a4wd and 4wh or back and forth. All I know is that they said they didn't care for the switch and fixed it for free out of warrenty. I guess it was easy.
Hey chixon.... the A4WD light is not supposed to blink. Mine does it also and it does not work the way it's supposed to. I have heard 10 different fixes for this problem... all of which involve a trip to the stealership! They have to access the 4x4 system on these rigs with a factory authorized computer! Good luck... I found that if I need 4WD I will just switch the **** to 4HI!
If it's a 1997 - 1998 flashing between A4wd and 4H when you put it in one of those, it's most likely due to dirty switch connectors.. The expedition owners guide (EOG) tells you how to fix it, do a search for that.
Hey southprk..... Already tried cleaning the switch. It is like new. I have been told that the system might need to be re-flashed. I have also been told that it could be a speed sensor on the transfer case. I have also been told that it could be a speed sensor on the rear end. I have also been told that it could just need to be reset! Like I said, no one around here local can give me a solid answer and I really don't feel like spending $1000 to have everything replaced until it's fixed. I have never been one for the shotgun approach!
hey freek, the problem my dealer found was a code for a "Halls switch or sensor" was bad. however i didn't replace it because it works with the air ride suspension, but i didn't know when i bought this expy that it "had " air ride suspension cause the guy cut it all out and put a lift and regular shocks on it. soooo replacing the sensor might not have helped me. but that was my problem...hope this can help you out...i know what you are goin through it took me forever to get and answer. good luck
