as for the compressor, there is no real test i have ever found short of opening the system and looking for signs of failure like pieces pieces in the lines..
if it is the original compressor, I would just replace it. They are cheap, you can usually get a compressor, receiver drier, office tube, or ring kit for under $200. And a kit with all that AND a condenser for around $300

I was looking at kits on parts geek and discount ac parts. I have a running list on Rockauto also haha. I’ll just get the compressor also that way it’s one and done (hopefully). That will leave the evap core original… I recently pulled the box cover off, insulated and resealed it. That was a pain.

evap core on my 88 sprung a leak. i looked closely into replacing it, and decided it would be easier to just replace the cab...

That same scenario almost happened when I was swapping leaf spring hangers. 6 hrs into grinding and I was seriously contemplating unhooking the fuel filter and whatever happened, happened! On my 90, all I would have to do for evap is to remove side cover on box. 88 is different?

not sure, i never really looked too hard into it because the cab was beyond saving and i had an almost new 35 year old 87 F150 cab. truck sat in a garage unused for 35 years with only 900 miles on it. guy bought it and realized it was too small, so he bought a 350 and gave the 150 to his son. who then hit a tree and parked it in the garage until 22 when the father sold the house. he gave it to a friend of mine who wanted the engine for his 94 that was REAL tired. i took the cab, bed, and front fenders for my 88

I have a client that has me do a dump run for him once a year. Not joking, it’s to take all of his electronics that he got mad at during the year and smashed to pieces. He puts them in boxes under his deck and has new ones delivered the next day…

If it was a post- 91, I was going to say check for vacuum leaks.

Mine leaks enough that the doors close whenever I use more throttle than cruise....

t
will get around to that one of these... decades...

One of the areas I’ve already replaced! It was one of those deals where it kept breaking every time I touched a “good area” to attach to. After the fourth time, I said screw it and replaced it all.
