Ac is no longer blowing cold air and was thinking about trying a can of ac pro on her. However, i have heard some pretty bad stories about people killing their compressors and overcharging the system. Has anyone haf any luck with this, or is it not worth the risk.
you need to do a proper charge. with a real gauge set so you can read both high and low side pressure. those auto parts store AC killer cans has an idiot gauge on them that does nothing.
i have seen the can gauge say there is 35 lbs when a real manifold set says it is actually 60lbs.
and the can gauge does not tell you what the high side is, for all you know you could have a blockage in the system and have a high side up close to 450-500 lbs and not know it until a lien blows.
skip the AC killer can and have it done properly.
Try to find the one with a trigger or valve that you can control freon flow.
Put it in a little at a time and let the system stabilize a few seconds before chargeing more in. Watch the gauge while chargeing. The gauge will read system pressure before you actually pull the trigger.
At least the ones I have used did. That way you do not overcharge and harm the compressor. If system is real low you may need to jumper the low side switch plug-in to cycle the compressor.

This....
Best thing I ever did was have it done professionally, even though I had a top of the line Robinaire machine the first 4 or 5 times it was done. It ain't all about the amount of Freon.
on average i get 3-4 per year that come in with "i put a can of ac pro( or whatever killer can) in and it still don't work" only to put the manifolt set on and see high side pressures over 400 lbs. then they bitch about it costing $200 to $250 to repair AFTER they spent $45 for the AC killer in a can.

Have you checked to ensure the a/c clutch is operating properly, allowing the compressor to turn?
It might be a clutch clearance issue, lots of threads here, or a low pressure sensor switch that won't allow it to operate?
I'd start there first.
