Corrosion. Some places are much worse than others .................. Some sources of fuel (water) are much worse than others.

Good point, because it would likely be internal corrosion and not obvious. Thanks!

Yeah, sitting that long, there could be a lot of debris in the chamber, the steel plug could be rusted, and he needs to remove the fuel heater.

My original pump is still in the truck @ 140k, I never changed it.

I kick myself at this point for not changing it when I had the engine on the stand, but that was @90k and I decided against the expense.

By LFC drain plug, are you referring to the upgrade plug, part # 6E7Z-9C082-A ?
That's what I have. Little bugger is more expensive now than I recall.
$49 on Amazon. But it beats the original stock drain plug, especially on a 4x4.

Like Jack said, clean the turbo. If the truck has been sitting a long time, the unison ring is probably seized.

If changing the HPOP, also replace the J-tube, aka discharge tube

Other upgrades and/or longevity opportunities:
- 6.4 trans pan and filter
- harpoon fuel tank
- check driveshaft carrier bearing/bushing
- upgraded battery and ground cables

Got my truck back. Taking it on a 250-mile run to see how it does. I will report on it later.

It ran great! Unlimited Diesel Performance gave it a light tune. More responsive than before. Sounds great. Easy start. Filled the tank and drove 312.3 miles. Filled the tank again with 15.3 gallons. That's 20.4 mpg. Kept the rpms just under 2000. Doing about 69-70 mph. Very happy. That was without cruise control. Unfortunately, the cruise control shuts off on any upgrade. It was fine on flat surfaces and downgrades. I suspect the brake pedal switch. What are your thoughts?

Sounds reasonable, check the pressure switch connector on master cylinder for presence of brake fluid too. If remember correctly that can be a thing on these years

What is the reason for the 2008-2010 6.4 transmission filter and pan, as it relates to a 2003 6.0 F250?

The "filter" on our trucks is a coarse screen, whereas the 6.4 is a pleated filter that collects very fine particles. It is also a bit larger, which is why you have to replace the pan. It is considered a major upgrade and highly endorsed by our resident transmission specialist, Mark Kovalsky.

How about the 'secondary' filter up towards the front end, change that to a 6.4 style one also?

And thank you.

That can be left in place. The 6.4L doesn't have it; its in-pan filter replaces it. But if you want to do away with it, you have to do more work and replace the housing with tubing. IMO, I'm leaving it in place.
